We understand that looking for the services of a professional metal detectorist/treasure hunter isn't something you do every day. Often when you do, it is because you have lost something very precious to you and you need help now. You don’t have time to wade through lots of information, so we have prepared some of the most frequently asked questions we get in those initial phone calls
All terrain. We search on land in parks, paddocks, gardens and on beaches; underwater in the ocean, marinas, rivers and dams - basically anywhere you can lose it, we can search for it.
We have found items in some pretty strange places. Each environment having its own unique challenges and requirements.
In places where there is a lot of concrete, such as a shopping mall carpark, the item is much easier for a passer by to spot and pick up, so the window of opportunity to find it can be very short. Also, in house/property searches and places where there is a lot of metal debris like a burnt down house site (electrical wires, nails etc), the complexity of the search is much greater.
Until the item is found or the search plan has been completed.
To look at our overall recovery rate of I guess 60-70% over the years would be misleading to base your chances on. It is important to understand that in most but not all cases the length of time between the loss and the search greatly impacts the chances of success. This means many of the searches we have not succeeded on were impossible due to time as the lost item is no longer in the area they were lost in. If you call on the same day as the loss our chances are probably 80-100% even if lost in the water! Every search is different but if the item is still in the area it is believed lost and detectable then the chances of recovery are very high. Our longest run of 100% success went for 28 successful searches in a row, with most of them in the ocean. A feat we believe is unrivalled anywhere in the world and unlikely to be repeated!
Having said that, just because something was lost many years ago doesn’t automatically mean it can't be found, it really comes down to the details and a quality investigation leading to a professional search plan.
Time is of the essence, especially if you lost something in a public place like a beach or park. You are on the right track having found our services. Ring Rescues has successfully found over $500,000 worth of lost jewellery, phones, keys and other precious items for our customers.
Please fill out a contact form as soon as you can including uploading any photo's of the area and of the lost item and once we have reviewed it we can contact you and work out the best plan to get you reunited with your lost item as soon as possible.
If you are still at the location where you lost the item, please take careful note/photographs of your surroundings, or better still drop a pin on google maps. If possible, discreetly mark out the area where you were - especially if you were on a beach as it can very quickly all look pretty similar.
We know how stressful it is when you’ve lost something special to you - or your car keys and you need to get home, so we aim to be very responsive. We monitor our contact forms 24 hours a day, and will make contact almost immediately once you submit the form, to talk about the best approach for your search.
It is a common misconception that grabbing a detector and having a swing around will achieve the result you are looking for. A lot goes into a successful search even before you turn on and tune the metal detector.
We will speak with you to get a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding your loss including when and where you last knew you had your item, where and when you noticed it missing and what you did in between. Using our extensive experience and expertise, we consider many factors that may impact how and when your item was most likely lost, and where it is most likely to be, so we can refine and prioritise our search area/s. For example the physics and trajectory of the item if it flew off your hand while throwing a ball; or the weather and tide phase if it was lost at the beach or in the water.
The value of a thorough investigation cannot be underestimated in achieving a successful outcome and is often the most important part of a successful search.
If we don't find your lost item our services are FREE. We operate on a no find, no fee basis. If we can’t locate your item, it costs you nothing other than a small callout to cover expenses so we are not out of pocket. This is typically $100, for local searches, but as we travel Australia-wide, we will let you know if it will be more to get us and the most appropriate equipment to the loss site/s - we assure you this is kept to a minimum to cover petrol, maintenance, batteries, dive tanks (if required) etc so you are not risking much to have the best possible chance to get your precious back.
If your item is found we are happy to accept your 'reward offer' assuming it is sufficient to justify the total effort and time that may be required to find an item as it is not in our natures to do things by halves and once committed to a search we do not give up until we've left no stone unturned and found the item or can say with great certainty that the item is not in the areas searched. (we can in many situations say that with 100% certainty) Sometimes our experience allows us to find things quickly, while others may take much longer and require multiple attempts. That is the risk that we take on so you don't need to.
